Where to Strength Train in Lisbon: Best Gyms & Outdoor Spots

Finding a great place to strength train in Lisbon can be tricky - especially if you want a space that feels supportive, strength-focused, and not just another over-crowded commercial gym. Whether you’re looking for a well-equipped gym or love the idea of outdoor workouts in Lisbon (spring is cominggg!!), there are great options depending on your style and goals.

Here’s a breakdown of the best places to strength train in Lisbon—plus how I can help you get the most out of your workouts.

Strength Training Outdoors in Lisbon (for People Who Like Fresh Air)

Outdoor workouts are free, flexible, and a great way to stay active in Lisbon’s year-round sunshine. You don’t need a gym membership—just some basic equipment (or none at all!).

Best Equipment for Strength Training Outdoors

Here’s what I recommend to my clients for home & outdoor workouts:

  • Resistance Bands – Work like a cable machine, attach to doors, trees, etc.

  • Booty Bands – Perfect for glute building & lower body strength

  • Dumbbells (DBs) – Compact & versatile for full-body workouts

  • TRX Band – Attaches anywhere for bodyweight strength training

Best Outdoor Workout Spots in Lisbon

  1. Parque Eduardo VII Calisthenics Park – Features pull-up bars, dip stations & calisthenics equipment

  2. Parque de Nações Calisthenics Park - Another calisthenics park with other green spaces, like Parque Tejo, around

  3. Jardim da Estrela (photo) – Scenic park with shaded areas, great for TRX & kettlebell sessions

  4. Tejo Promenade Alcântara – Long pathways, great for weighted carries & functional fitness, nice breeze in the summer heat

  5. Alvito Recreational Park or Parque da Pedra - These parks (and the ones around them) offer large open spaces, perfect for bodyweight & resistance band training. If you have kids or partners - bring them along to enjoy the playgrounds, tennis courts & climbing walls. Perfect for an active family outing!

Best Gym for Strength Training in Lisbon: Sunset Fit (Campo de Ourique)

When I moved to Lisbon, I was looking for a gym that was the right fit for:
1. My own training style (powerlifting)
2. My clients

I tried a few gyms in the city center, however I found they were often super crowded, not well-equipped, and lacked a clean, welcoming atmosphere. After searching for the right fit, I found Sunset Fit in Campo de Ourique—and it checked all the boxes.

It’s a smaller, brand-new gym with an amazing atmosphere (+ great music 😉), high-quality equipment, and best of all—it’s never too busy! Do yourself a favour and check it out:
